March charity update

Hello everyone

Its only the middle of the month and we have been so busy! Below are some photographs from a few of the bigger one-off events events:

12 March: Saigon Childrens Charity held it's annual cyclo challenge race at The Crescent (Phu My Hung, District 7). The aim of the event was to raise money in order to be able to offer educational and vocational training to children from disadvantaged backgrounds in Ho Chi Minh City and surrounding provinces. Approximately $30,000 was raised this year. Apollo volunteers had the chance to referee the race and we were pleased to help. A big thank you to Madison for her whistle blowing skills!

16th March: Ba Dao is the single grandmother of 14 years old twins, Cuc and Truc, and their 10 years old sister Vi. Dao has been bringing up the 3 children since they were born, as the mother of the children is a heroin addict and in the final stages of AIDS. To support the children, Dao collects recyclable garbage at night and sells it in the day. With the money she earns that day, she feeds the children. Dao is old, tired and in poor health, and her daily life and that of the children is quite tenuous. Despite all of these factors, the children do very well at school, are exceptionally beautiful, and always clean. The family lives in Go Vap District at the end of a dark hallway in a 9 m2 room with no windows. The room was filthy, ugly and unsuitable for young children to inhabit. We raised funds to clean up the room and repaint the walls which were literally black with dirt. It was a fantastic day with so many teachers and TAs using their free time to make some ones life so much brighter!
