What is Delta?

The Cambridge Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (Delta) is the most recognised in-service qualification for English language teachers anywhere in the world. It is moderated by the University of Cambridge and is intended for those who plan to progress their careers in English teaching. The qualification is aimed at working teachers, generally those who have 2-years of full-time varied experience.

The Delta is run in three modules (the third of which has two options):

Module One                      Understanding Language, Methodology and Resources for Teaching

Module Two                      Developing Professional Practice

Module Three                   Option 1: Extending Practice and ELT Specialism

Option 2: English Language Teaching Management

Apollo International House Hanoi is an approved centre for Module 1 and 3 of Delta and for the Distance Delta Orientation Course. In 2019, we will run the Orientation Course in spring.

During the Orientation Course, the main focus will be on:

  • Researching and producing a draft background assignment on grammar.
  • Preparing and teaching a lesson to Delta standard (though this will not be officially graded).
  • Introducing the administrative elements of the distance programme.
  • Introducing the Professional Development Assignment (PDA), both Part One (Reflection and Action) and Part Two (Experimental Practice).
